My Big Goal

When I transitioned from Historical Accounting to Delivery, I had to navigate the transition and deal with a challenging client who was very particular about their processes. They wanted to keep things familiar, and I understand them well. 

The most significant change I’ve had to adjust to was the structure between the HA and Delivery. I have three people I’m supporting and new responsibilities that I’m learning and taking on as a General Accountant, so I’d like to get everything sorted and organized with the new client I’ve taken on and, perhaps in the future, take on a role as a Senior. 

My Big Lesson

Patience. I’ve always been organized, but particularly in this role, I need to be on top of things. I managed three clients in HA, so I needed to organize my day according to their tasks. When we have especially challenging clients, we have to practice patience in response to some of their work cultures that we can’t control. 

My Favorite Memory

The recognition leaders share with their staff. Whenever I’ve handled a complicated situation, my Senior or Lead thanks me for it, which has never happened to me at previous jobs. When we do something right at Proper, management notices it, calls it out, and thanks us for it. 

My Big Surprise

When Historical Accounting was absorbed into Delivery. We were a small, close team, so we adjusted to the new ways of working week after week. It was challenging as we anticipated what would happen, but I’m glad we’re here. 

What I’m Proud Of 

I worked for my previous employer for eight years before I joined Proper — I was disheartened about my career and pessimistic about my prospects, as well as Colombia’s job market in general. That’s why I started looking for a position based in the US.

When I joined Proper, I regained my ambition and pride for my career. This job has redefined what I’ll expect from employment in the future: everyone on the team is close, we talk regularly, and we work well together. There’s something about Proper, where we work virtually but are still very close. I’m glad to work here because it makes me feel good and appreciated.   

‍The Fun Stuff

What was your childhood ambition?

I wanted to be a doctor because all of my uncles on my mom’s side are doctors. Even my mom is a pharmacist. 

If you could work remotely from absolutely anywhere, where would it be?

Probably Cartagena! I like traveling and using the unlimited PTO wisely to work from wherever I am. I just take my laptop with me wherever I go. I’m privileged not to be stuck in an office. 

What is your favorite type of taco? 

I’m more of a burrito person or even a quesadilla. If I had to have a taco, it’d be cochinita pibil. 

What has inspired you recently? 

As I mentioned, everything I’ve had to learn to prepare for a new client and coordinate among more people inspires me to prove we can take care of everything we need to do. 

If you could be any animal, which would you be, and why?

A dog. They’re the most loyal animals. 

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

“Texas Hold ‘Em” — Beyoncé 

Tea or coffee?

Coffee. Definitely. A lot. 

What’s a movie everyone should see at least once?

Eat, Pray, Love.

One day at a time.
