My Big Goal

I’d like to do something closer to auditing rather than processing, or as a change of focus, I would also like to be part of the training team — teaching others is a way to affirm how well I understand accounting.

My Big Lesson

I thought accounting in the US was stricter and more intimidating than here in Colombia, but accountants everywhere are juggling the same numbers, issues, problems, messes, and even clients. I thought it was only this way in Latin America, but it’s worldwide. My Favorite Memory Working with BTF. Our team buildings were awesome. It was like stepping into a world of competition and passion. I saw new sides of people. Shy team members turned out to be very competitive and ready to win at all costs. I treasure those memories.

My Big Surprise

Most of the team has different English proficiency levels, but we’re still able to communicate with our clients, who are kind and patient enough to meet us halfway to make communication smoother.

What I’m Proud Of

I love Excel. I’m always trying to learn something new, and though I consider myself an intermediate user, I‘ve crafted and improved some valuable templates.

The Fun Stuff

What was your childhood ambition?

I wanted to be an auditor. I have a keen eye for finding errors. There’s a quote that reads, “To err is human, to edit is divine.”

If you could work remotely from absolutely anywhere, where would it be?

I read Inferno by Dan Brown a few years ago, and his description of Florence made me want to visit.

What is your favorite type of taco?

I usually don’t eat tacos.

What has inspired you recently?

I’ve started listening to audiobooks by Jim Rohn. He has a philosophy that’s given me several epiphanies about when you want to change your life or perspectives on career.  

He’s inspired me to rethink many things, particularly the word “value.” He says, “You’re not getting paid by the hour; you’re getting paid by the value you bring to your company.” It’s a helpful way to look at the way we work.

If you could be any animal, which would you be, and why?

The best, purest animals in the world are dogs.

Tea or coffee?

Neither. My cup of choice is water.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Peace and joy are not things you attain at the end of life.

They are the basis of your life. If you consider peace the ultimate goal, you will only “rest in peace.”
