I want to create increased transparency for relevant financial information across Proper. We’re good at the executive level, but we can do better company-wide.

My Big Lesson

There’s a balance between patience and urgency. Both have a time and season, and you must know when you employ the right one at the right time. 

My Favorite Memory

Our January board meeting was fun. It was remote and only the second meeting I’d attended. We did a workshop afterward, and meeting so many people I’d only met remotely was cool. So many intelligent people from different parts of the organization came together to make decisions for the best of Proper. 

My Big Surprise 

How much we’ve changed in the last 12 months. Some changes are due to the size we’ve grown to, and some are due to having so many new faces!

Either way, we’ve accomplished a lot, and the team has shown a lot of resilience.

What I’m Proud Of

The fact that an ever-increasing number of people believe in what we’re doing. We’re building something that will outlast us, and it’s cool to see how many people have joined in since we started.

The Fun Stuff

What was your childhood ambition?

I wanted to play professional football for the Minnesota Vikings. I grew up in Minnesota, so I’m a huge Vikings fan. 

If you could work remotely from absolutely anywhere, where would it be?

I’d like to kick up my feet on a beach in El Salvador, Playa El Sunzal. Beautiful place, and I love the black sand! Or maybe a mountain somewhere in the Swiss Alps. 

What is your favorite type of taco? 

I’d go for a shrimp taco. I had a great recipe for the Super Bowl —shrimp, bacon, onion, chipotle pepper— it was great!

What’s inspired you recently? 

I’m in awe of how my youngest son looks at the world. How he learns, and the innocence he projects. It makes me think that being a kid again would be cool. 

If you could be any animal, which would you be, and why?

Either a fox or an owl. An owl because it would be kinda cool to spin my head around and see things from their perspective. I’m a night owl, and owls aren’t super apex predators.

Foxes get into mischief, and I like to cause mischief once in a while—get reactions out of people. 

What’s your go-to karaoke song? 

"Friends in Low Places" — Garth Brooks.

Tea or coffee? 

Neither. Lots of water!!!

What’s a movie everyone should see at least once?

American Underdog

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Volatility is overstated.

I trade options on the side, and pricing is based on projections of volatility meant to predict how much a stock will move in the future. Still, data shows that future volatility predictions are overstated 84% of the time. 

‍

When something happens to us, our innver volatility meter jumps in the moment, but when we look back with a different perspective, we can understand that things aren’t always as bad as they seem in the moment.
